Prairie Paragliding

JohnandBJ
Paragliding is possible on the prairies, but our winds make it less practical. See the Comparison of Hang Gliding to Paragliding review on HangGliding.org.

Hang gliding and paragliding have much in common, and can be equally safe or dangerous, but are best suited to different circumstances. As winds become more challenging paraglider pilots usually pack up while hang glider pilots set up.

Many of us enjoy both sides of the sport and simply change equipment as the wind picks up. Hang glider pilots may wear a disguise while paragliding, to avoid having to explain "bi" tendencies.

The photos on this page were taken at the Qu'Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan.

Paragliding has definite advantages over hang gliding. Paragliders are easier to transport, store and take on holidays. They are easier to land in mountain clearings. A greater number of paraglider pilots are also women, resulting in a significantly more mature environment.

Instruction

If you are determined to learn to paraglide, we can offer you a brief introduction and demonstration. There will be no charge if we are not busy with students. We regret that we do not offer instruction.

A good instructor is crucial. Basic skills learned incorrectly are difficult to relearn and can handicap a pilot for years.
